T-SHIRT GIVEAWAY! BLUES BATTLE LAKERS FRIDAY NIGHT

The Under Armour Games of the Week sees the University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's and women's basketball teams host the Nipissing Lakers on Friday (Jan. 18) night at Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport.

The women gets things started at 6:00 p.m., with the men to follow at 8:00 p.m. Advanced tickets are on sale here. The games will also be streamed live on OUA.tv.

The first 100 fans will received a free Varsity Blues t-shirt and there will be chances to win other great prizes throughout the night!

The Blues men picked up two key road victories over the York Lions and the Queen's Gaels last weekend. Those victories allowed Toronto to remain in striking distance for the final playoff spot in the OUA East division. They only sit one game back of the Laurentian Voyageurs, who they play on Saturday night at home.

Second-year guard Evan Shadkami leads the team in scoring with 14.7 points per game. The team can also turn to first-year guard Inaki Alvarez and fourth-year forwards Daniel Johansson and Nikola Paradina to be offensive threats with all averaging over 10 points per game.

Toronto is finding their stride in 2019. They were within one possession of taking down the No. 1 Carleton Ravens two weeks ago, dropping a 70-68 decision. With only nine games remaining, all of which are against divisional foes, the Blues are at a critical point in their season to continue the momentum they built last weekend.

The Blues women's team is in a similar position, only two games back of the Laurentian Voyageurs for the final playoff spot in the OUA East division. They need to get by the Lakers first, who share their record thus far this season.

Second-year guard Christine Jurcau averaged 5.1 points per game in 2018, but in the 2019, she has doubled with 11.5. Third-year forward Nada Radonjic and first-year guard Samantha Robertson are others to keep an eye out for because they are both averaging just below 10 points per game in the New Year.
