Third-year guard Mahal De La Durantaye recorded a game and career-high 16 points but the University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's basketball team fell 69-61 to the York Lions on Friday night (Jan. 11) at Tait McKenzie Centre.
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Blues brought the game within three (47-44) early in the fourth quarter but the Lions pulled away, going on a 7-0 run. Christine Jurcau rallied the troops with an and one to bring the game back within four (58-54) with five minutes remaining, but that was as close as the Blues would come.
TORONTO STATS: De La Durantaye went 6-for-9 from the floor, while adding a team-high six boards in the loss. Ariana Sider added 13 points, five steals and four rebounds, while sophomore Christine Jurcau had 10 points and five boards on the night.
Nada Radonjic chipped in with nine points, with Charlotte Collyer adding six.
UP NEXT: The Blues travel to Kingston, Ont., to take on the Queen's Gaels tomorrow night (Jan. 12) at 6 p.m. The game will be streamed live on OUA.tv.
