Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

BLUES COME UP JUST SHORT TO NO. 5 BADGERS

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team dropped a narrow 2-1 decision to No. 5 Brock Badgers on Friday (Jan. 11) night at Varsity Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED: The Blues got the crowd into it early. First-year forward Joey Manchurek skated into the zone and sent a booming shot into the top corner just 1:12 into the game. The Badgers responded as their leading scorer Ryan Burton found the back of the net with just under five left in the first period. The score was 1-1 after 20 minutes.

The score remained the same until the third period. Brock's Ayden Macdonald shot went straight into the air and took favourable bounce off Alex Bishop's helmet on the way down for the second goal at 11:41. The Blues peppered Brock's goalie Logan Thompson with 28 shots, but could only solve him once.

Toronto's goaltender Alex Bishop made 22 saves in a losing effort.

UP NEXT: The Blues are back in action in under 24 hours as they host the Guelph Gryphons Saturday (Jan. 12) night. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m., at Varsity Arena.
