The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's basketball team picked up their first win of 2019, defeating the York Lions 63-58 on Friday night (Jan. 11) at Tait McKenzie Centre.
TORONTO STATS: Second-year guard Evan Shadkami notched a team-high 15 points, while adding six boards, two assists and one steal on the night.
Veteran Chris Barrett added 12 points and three assists, while rookie guard Inaki Alvarez had 11 points and three boards. Daniel Johansson recorded eight points, with Arash Dusek leading the Blues with 10 boards in the win.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Trailing 44-42 heading into the fourth quarter, the Blues outscored the Lions 21-14 in the final frame. Barrett rallied the troops with five straight points, before Johansson drained six points in the last three minutes to round out the victory.
UP NEXT:Â The Blues travel to Kingston, Ont., to take on the Queen's Gaels tomorrow night (Jan. 12) at 8 p.m. The game will be streamed live on OUA.tv.
