BLUES TOP CAPITAL WAVE IN TOURNAMENT FINALE

For the second time in two days, the Varsity Blues women's water polo team avenged an earlier tournament loss to an opponent.

This time it was Capital Wave "A" (Ottawa), which had defeated Toronto 11-6 Saturday night, that fell victim to the Blues rebound efforts.

The teams played a rare scoreless first quarter with both goalies turning aside whatever the shooters offered up. The teams then traded goals twice to begin the second quarter before Wave scored a third time to take a 3-2 half time lead.

The Blues found their offensive range in the third period scoring three unanswered goals to go up 5-3 heading into the final frame.  Though Wave crept to within one goal midway through the fourth quarter, the Blues were not about to repeat the last quarter performance from the night before and scored an insurance marker with two minutes remaining to seal a 6-4 win.

Six different Blues scored as senior and captain Megan MacCormac (Ottawa), juniors Emily Kelvin-Davies (Maple Ridge, B.C.) and Rhianna Wood (Calgary) and freshmen Katie Smith (Chestermere, Alberta), Sarah Wentling (Mohnton, Pennsylvania) and  Sara Sutherland (Regina) found the back of the net.

Next up for the Blues is a visit to the Olympic Pool in Montreal in two weeks to face for the first time new NCWP member schools McGill and UQAM along with a team made up of  national team players currently centralized at the facility.
