A dominant offensive effort led the Varsity Blues men's soccer team to a big win in the Game of the Week matchup against the Queen's Gaels on Sunday, September 30, at Varsity Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Team captain Nikola Stakic opened the scoring on a penalty shot in the 17th minute. Toronto was up 1-0 at the half. The Blues struck again in the 49th minute, when second-year midfielder Nicholas Osorio slid one past Gaels keeper Alexander Dimock off a nice through ball from Jack Wadden.
The Gaels made things interesting though, as Sean Inaki Hew cut the deficit to one in the 84th minute. The Blues held strong and, in the dying seconds of the game, sophomore midfielder Nick Chiapetta sealed the deal for the Blues, making it 3-1 the final.
Blues goalkeeper Stefan Dusciuc posted five saves in the win. Toronto ties the season series with the Gaels and now sits in sole possession of third place in the highly-competitive OUA East division.
UP NEXT: The Blues head to Ottawa next Sunday (Oct. 7) to face the Carleton Ravens, who are currently tied for first in the OUA East with Ryerson. The match is set to begin at 3:15 p.m.
