BLUES DROP CLOSE DECISION AT WINDSOR

It was a tale of two halves as the University of Toronto Varsity Blues football team dropped a 26-24 decision to the Windsor Lancers on Saturday, September 29 at Alumni Stadium.

TORONTO STATS:

Fourth-year quarterback Connor Ennis went 22-for-41 for 358 yards and two touchdowns in his first start of the season. His pass completions, attempts, yardage and two TD's were all career-highs in the Blue and White.

Will Corby matched his career-best seven catches for career-high 172 yards and one major, while fellow sophomore receiver Nolan Lovegrove had four receptions for 86 yards and one TD on the day.

Third-year defensive lineman Malcolm Campbell led all players with a career-high 12.5 tackles and two sacks. Fourth-year defensive back Nick Hallett had two tackles, and forced and recovered a fumble in the end zone for Toronto's other TD of the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Blues opened the scoring on their first drive as Ennis connected a 39-yard pass with Lovegrove early in the first quarter. The Blues scored again before the end of the first as Ennis found Corby midfield, who ran the ball the rest of the way for the 88-yard major. Toronto padded their lead with Hallet's forced fumble recovery in the end zone midway through the second quarter.

Windsor finally got on the board late in the second quarter and scored a field goal in each of their last three possessions of the first half. Toronto was up 21-9 at halftime.

After the Lancers added one field goal in the third quarter, they finally struck early in the fourth as Sam Girard connected a 30-yard pass with Kaeden Walls. Clark Green kicked his fifth field goal of the game as Windsor took a 22-21 lead with 5:40 to go.

Toronto kicker Ethan Shafer added a 28-yard strike to give Toronto back the lead, but the Lancers added another field goal and a single in the last minute of play to secure the win.

UP NEXT: The Blues host the Ottawa Gee-Gees this Thursday, October 4. Kick off is set for 7 p.m.
