University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's volleyball veteran Anna Feore has been named a member of the team that will represent Canada at the 2018 FIVB world indoor volleyball championship, September 29-October 20, in Japan.
Feore, who enters her fifth season as a left side hitter for the Blues this fall, is the first current Varsity Blue to compete at the world indoor championship. She was excited when she realized she would be representing Canada on the world stage.
"It has been an amazing season with the national team," said the health and disease major from Stratford, Ont. "I feel honoured to be able to wear the maple leaf on my chest. It's almost surreal to be living my dream at this point in my career. I'm looking forward to Japan. This team is ready to compete and make waves at the world championship."
Team Canada kicks off the world championship next Saturday, September 29 when they take on Turkey in Sapporo, Japan. They face Italy on September 30 and wrap up pool play versus China on October 2.

In 2017-18, Feore was named an OUA East first team all-star, her second career all-star nod after being named to the second team in 2016-17. She ranked second on the Blues, averaging 2.31 kills and 2.8 points per set, while leading the squad and ranking 11th in the OUA with 3.08 digs per set. She recorded a career-high 25 digs in two matches last season.
"We are all thrilled for Anna," said Varsity Blues head coach Kristine Drakich. "It is amazing to have the opportunity to represent Canada at anytime and to do that at the FIVB world championships is a privilege. She has spent the past two summers training with the national team in BC, working hard to take her game to the next level and to be selected to this roster is such an honour. It is definitely impressive and a testament to our programs ability to develop athletes to compete at the next level."
Varsity Blues assistant coach Vincenzo Mallia will also join Feore in Japan, serving as an assistant coach for Team Canada. Â
