The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's and women's squash teams travel to Kingston, Ont., for the 2018 OUA championships, February 9-11, hosted by the Queen's Gaels.
Toronto's women, who are coming off a first place finish at the Jester's final this past weekend, are led by 2016 OUA MVP and three-time OUA all-star Evelyn Moorhouse.
The Blues No. 1 player has been tough to stop this year and has led Toronto to a 12-1 record versus OUA competition, including a 5-2 win over the OUA defending champion Gaels.
With a nice blend of experience and youth, and under third-year head coach Josh Ginou's guidance, the squad should bounce back from last year's sixth-place finish and be aiming for the podium this weekend.Â
The Blues men are coming into the championships just as impressive as the women. In their last eight matches, Toronto has only fallen to the defending champion Western Mustangs, 4-3, at the Jester's Crossover #2 and placed second at this past weekend's Jester's finals.
Rookie standout Sam Burley has assumed Toronto's No. 1 spot and is expected turn heads this weekend. Combine him with fifth-year veterans Alexandre Garceau and Yusuf Shalaby and the Blues look to be one of the most dangerous teams that hope to dethrone the reigning champion Mustangs.
The men will open the tournament on Friday afternoon against Brock, while the women's road to the banner begins with Western on Friday evening.
