Box Score The Varsity Blues men's basketball team dropped a 96-76 decision to the No. 9 Ryerson Rams on Friday night (Feb. 2) at Mattamy Athletic Centre.
The Blues we're up 43-39 after the first half, but couldn't hold off the No. 9 team in the nation. The Rams generated a 17-6 run in the third quarter and didn't look back.
Reilly Reid experienced one of the best all-around games of his career. He led the Blues with 17 points, seven rebounds and a career-high eight assists.
Ryerson's Roshane Roberts scored a game-high 25 points and teammate Manny Diressa chipped in with 20 of his own.
The Blues record dips to 9-11, but remain two games up on the Nipissing Lakers for the final playoff spot in the East division, while the Rams upgrade to 13-6 on the season.
U of T fed Daniel Johansson in the first quarter. The third-year forward tallied seven points, three of which came from beyond the arc. The Blue and White were still down 24-17 after the opening 10 minutes.
Sage Usher and the rest of Blues got a hot hand in the second quarter. The fourth-year guard recorded 11 of the team's 25 points in the frame to take a 43-39 lead into the locker room.
Ryerson made the proper adjustment in the second half. They shot over 57% from the field and held U of T to under 39%.
The men don't hit the court again until next Friday (Feb. 9) when they take on the Queen's Gaels in Kingston. The last time the two squads faced off, the Blues outscored the Gaels 23-11 in the fourth to complete the 74-64 comeback victory. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m., at the Queen's Arc and all the action can be streamed on OUA.tv.
