Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's basketball team held off the No. 8 Laurentian Voyageurs 80-77 to extend their winning streak to three games on Friday night (Feb. 16) at Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport.
Evan Shadkami nailed a career-high six three-pointers for a game-high 18 points. Reilly Reid added 15 points and a game-high seven rebounds, while Sage Usher chipped in with 14 points and game-high six assists in the victory.
Laurentian's Anthony Lacoe registered a season-high 24 points on 8-of-11 shooting in a losing effort.
The Blues record upgrades to 12-10, which clinches the fifth spot in the OUA West division thanks to an Ottawa victory over Queen's. On the other hand, the Voyageurs dip to 16-6 to create a three-way tie for second place in the same division with one regular season game remaining.
An 8-2 run helped the Blues grab a 20-18 lead after the first quarter. Usher tallied six points, two assists and two rebounds in the opening frame.
The second quarter continued to be a back and forth affair. Despite shooting just 38.5% in the first half compared to the Voyageurs 53.8%, the Blues remained in the game. Reid drained a jumper as time expired to tie the score at 39-39 at halftime

It was more of the same out of the locker room. Both teams got their fair share of baskets, but no one was able to take charge. Laurentian led 59-58 heading into the final quarter.
The Blues jumped out to a 9-0 run to gain an early eight point advantage, but the No. 8 team in U SPORTS responded quickly. Lacoe drained five points to start off a 10-3 run for the Voyageurs and cut the deficit to a single point. They weren't able to regain the lead though.
With Toronto up by two with less than a minute to go, Shadkami nailed a corner three to ice the contest.
Toronto caps off their season when they battle the Nipissing Lakers tomorrow night (Feb. 17). All of the action begins at 8 p.m., at Goldring Centre.
