T-SHIRT GIVEAWAY FRIDAY NIGHT AT GOLDRING CENTRE

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's and women's basketball teams host the Laurentian Voyageurs this Friday, February 16 at Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport.

The women tip off at 6 p.m., with the men to follow at 8 p.m. Advance tickets are on sale here. The first 100 fans to the women's game will receive a free Varsity Blues fan t-shirt!

Toronto's women are riding a hot streak, having won their last four games against higher-ranked teams. The Blues have topped the Queen's Gaels, Ottawa Gee-Gees, Ryerson Rams and, with last Saturday's win over the York Lions, clinched a berth into the 2018 post season.

U of T is 9-12 and in sixth place in the East, ahead of Laurentian (5-16); however, the Blues will be out for revenge after the Voyageurs won the two team's first meeting of the season, 82-76, on Jan. 13 in Sudbury, Ont.

Third-year guard Keyira Parkes ranks sixth in the OUA, averaging 16.7 points per contest and has averaged 18.9 points since the December exam break. Fifth-year guard Rahshida Atkinson ranks second on the Blues, averaging 12.1 points per game, and sits just five points shy of 1,000 career regular season points.

U of T's men are 11-10 and tied with the Queen's Gaels for fifth-place in the East. Toronto is coming off two big wins over the Gaels and York Lions this past weekend, which also clinched them a playoff spot.

Veteran guards Sage Usher and Reilly Reid lead the Blues with 12.7 and 13.4 points per game, respectively. Usher is coming off an impressive weekend, which saw him notch a career-high 27 points in a come-from-behind victory at Queen's.

Following Friday's doubleheader, the Blues also host the Nipissing Lakers on Saturday night at Goldring Centre. U of T will be celebrating six graduating seniors in Atkinson, Diedre Edwards, Emily Piccini, Reid, Usher and Chase Ruttenberg in a special ceremony following the women's game.
