Â
Toronto's women are riding a hot streak, having won their last four games against higher-ranked teams. The Blues have topped the Queen's Gaels, Ottawa Gee-Gees, Ryerson Rams and, with last Saturday's win over the York Lions, clinched a berth into the 2018 post season.
Â
U of T is 9-12 and in sixth place in the East, ahead of Laurentian (5-16); however, the Blues will be out for revenge after the Voyageurs won the two team's first meeting of the season, 82-76, on Jan. 13 in Sudbury, Ont.
Â
Third-year guard Keyira Parkes ranks sixth in the OUA, averaging 16.7 points per contest and has averaged 18.9 points since the December exam break. Fifth-year guard Rahshida Atkinson ranks second on the Blues, averaging 12.1 points per game, and sits just five points shy of 1,000 career regular season points.
Â
U of T's men are 11-10 and tied with the Queen's Gaels for fifth-place in the East. Toronto is coming off two big wins over the Gaels and York Lions this past weekend, which also clinched them a playoff spot.
Â
Veteran guards Sage Usher and Reilly Reid lead the Blues with 12.7 and 13.4 points per game, respectively. Usher is coming off an impressive weekend, which saw him notch a career-high 27 points in a come-from-behind victory at Queen's.
Â
Following Friday's doubleheader, the Blues also host the Nipissing Lakers on Saturday night at Goldring Centre. U of T will be celebrating six graduating seniors in Atkinson, Diedre Edwards, Emily Piccini, Reid, Usher and Chase Ruttenberg in a special ceremony following the women's game.
