Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

BLUES FALL IN OVERTIME TO THUNDERWOLVES

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team dropped a 5-4 overtime decision to the Lakehead Thunderwolves on Saturday night (Nov. 3) at Varsity Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED: The Blues put the pressure on right from puck drop and it paid off just before the five minute mark. David Thomson connected with Scott Kirton on a two on one for the opening goal and his first goal of the season. Lakehead tied the score up thanks to Scott Gall's powerplay marker at 10:46. The special teams impacted the game again in the frame, but this time for Toronto. Defenceman Willy Paul kept the puck in at the blue line and hit Thomson back drop with just over five minutes left in the opening frame.

The powerplay theme continued in the second. Jordan King tapped in a rebound past Frederic Foulem at 5:37 to even things up. Only 15 seconds later though off a turnover, Kirton made a nice move to get by Lakehead's goalie Nic Renyard to regain the one goal lead. The Thunderwolves once again responded with Jordan King's second goal and the team's third powerplay tally at 18:15.

The score remained the same, until the final five minutes. On the counter attack, Thomson got the puck in the slot and fired it top corner for his second goal and third point on the night. Less than two minutes later, Tomas Soustal found the back of the net for Lakehead to tie the contest up a fours. The teams needed overtime to find a winner.

Only 46 seconds in, Patrick Murphy maneuvered around Foulem to pot in the overtime winner.

Foulem made 31 saves in a losing effort.

UP NEXT: Toronto finishes their five-game home stand on Friday November 9, when they duel the Brock Badgers at Varsity Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
