The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team notched their second straight victory with a 3-1 upset win over the No. 9 nationally ranked York Lions on Saturday night (Nov. 24) at Canlan Ice Sports.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Fourth-year forward Matt Campagna opened the scoring late in the first period, receiving a pass from Kevin Lavoie and deking around Lions goalie Alex Fotinos to find the back of the net. Toronto held the one-goal lead at the first intermission.
Fellow veteran forward Max Lindsay put the Blues up by two just 1:14 into the second frame, burying a rebound off of a Matt Heffernan point shot.
The Lions got on the board six minutes later as Reid Jackman notched a powerplay marker; however, the Blues answered right back as rookie forward David Thomson scored his team-leading eighth goal of the season, wiring the puck into the top corner of the net.
Rookie goalie Alex Bishop made 21 saves in his second straight victory.
UP NEXT: The Blues travel across town to take on the Ryerson Rams this Thursday night (Nov. 29). Puck drop is set for 7:15 p.m.
