CAMPAGNA’S LATE HEROICS LEADS BLUES OVER WARRIORS

Fourth-year forward Matt Campagna scored the game-tying and winning goals as the University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team defeated the Waterloo Warriors 3-2 in overtime on Friday night (Nov. 23) in Waterloo, Ont.

Down 2-1 with just over a minute to go, Campagna backhanded in a rebound off of an Evan MacEachern point shot to force overtime for the second time this season at Waterloo.

Campagna then finished the job, skating in off the blue line and sending a beautiful shot past Warriors goalie Julian Sime 2:08 into the extra period.

Second-year forward Hunter Atchison opened the scoring with a powerplay marker 8:14 into the game. The Warriors responded with a powerplay goal of their own and the two teams were deadlocked at 1-1 after 20 minutes of action.

Waterloo took the lead as Michael Morgan scored on the man advantage early in the second period and Campagna took over from there.

First-year Blues goalie Alex Bishop made 31 saves in his first career victory as a Varsity Blue.

UP NEXT: The Blues are back in action tomorrow night as they travel to take on the York Lions. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.
