Fifth-year forward Lauren Straatman notched one goal and two assists in leading the University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's hockey team to a 4-1 victory over the Laurier Golden Hawks on Sunday afternoon (Nov. 18) at Varsity Arena.
HOW IT HAPPENED:Â The Blues opened the game quickly when Cristine Chao buried a rebound off of a Kassie Roache shot just 40 seconds into the game. Back and forth play continued between the Blues and Golden Hawks until Stephanie Ayres was able to shovel a backhand shot into the top corner to put Toronto up 2-0 with one minute left in the opening frame.
U of T extended their lead late in the second frame as Roache grabbed the loose puck in front and finished the quick rebound. Straatman added the fourth U of T goal just one minute later on the power play as she found a Chao rebound and slid it past Golden Hawks netminder Nicole Yanchis.
Laurier spoiled the shut out as Emily Di Danieli put a loose puck past Blues goalie Erica Fryer with two minutes remaining.
Fryer made 21 saves in the win.
UP NEXT:Â The Blues are back in action next Saturday night (Nov. 25) as they host the Guelph Gryphons (5-1-1-1). Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m., at Varsity Arena.
