The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's hockey team fell 3-1 to the Waterloo Warriors on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 17) at Varsity Arena.
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Blues controlled the majority of the play in the opening frame, but it was the Warriorswho struck first. With only 11.7 seconds left, Brooklyn Sarnovsky's point shot was tipped in by Alison Hanson to hand Waterloo the 1-0 advantage.
U of T continued to put the pressure on in the second and were finally rewarded just past the midway point. Louie Bieman grabbed the loose puck in front and dangled around Warriors goalie Amanda Smith to even the score up at 1-1. Waterloo retook the lead thanks to Angela MacDonald shoveling in a rebound at 15:38.
Samantha Burbridge added an empty netter in the final minute of the third period to seal the victory for Waterloo.
Toronto's first-year goalie Eric Fryer made 15 saves in a losing effort.
UP NEXT: The Blues are back on the ice tomorrow afternoon (Nov. 18) against the other Waterloo-based team in the Laurier Golden Hawks (2-5-0-1). Puck drop is scheduled for 3:00 p.m., at Varsity Arena. Fans are reminded to enter via the Varsity Pavilion at the south end of the stadium.
