BLUES FALL IN PHYSICAL SHOWDOWN WITH MUSTANGS

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team fell 6-4 to the Western Mustangs on Friday night (Nov. 16) at Varsity Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Second-year forward Hunter Atchison opened the scoring off of a partial break as his laser of a shot went past Mustangs goalie Luke Peressini three minutes into the game. The Mustangs responded by putting up three consecutive goals by Kenny Huether, Anthony Stefano, and Ray Huether to finish out the first period.

Mustangs forward Theo Lewis opened the second period with a goal from Mitchell Fitzmorris just 35 seconds into the frame. Toronto was able to rejuvenate the large crowd at Varsity Arena by notching two one-timer goals from David Thomson and Max Lindsay just two minutes apart to steal the momentum and pull the game within one. The Mustangs pushed their lead back to two though as Huether added his second of the night, sending the visiting team into the intermission up 5-3.

Matthew Watson notched a goal for Western with eight minutes left to play in the third. Lindsay potted his second of the night with 24 seconds left, but it was too late as the Blues fell 6-4.

UP NEXT: The Blues are back in action tomorrow (Nov. 17), when they host the Guelph Gryphons at Varsity Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
