The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team fell 4-1 to the Laurier Golden Hawks on Saturday night (Nov. 10) at the Waterloo Recreational Complex.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Off a rebound, Lucas Batt recorded the opening goal just before the midway point of the period for Laurier. The Hawks doubled their lead with less than four minute left in the period. Forward Jake Henderson took the pass on the rush and sniped top corner.
Blues forward Hunter Atchison, who led the team in goals last season and missed the first nine games of 2018-19, picked up where he left off in just his second contest. The Victoria native tipped in Joshua Villaflor's point shot at 5:33 of the second frame. Laurier regained the two-goal lead thanks to a Christian Mroczkowski powerplay marker on a 5-on-3 with six minutes left in the period.
Danny Hanlon added an empty netter for Laurier in the final minute to seal the victory.
First-year goalie Alex Bishop made 28 saves for Toronto on the night.
UP NEXT: The Blues are back in action next Friday (Nov. 16), when they host the Western Mustangs at Varsity Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
