WOMEN’S SOCCER EDGED BY NO. 3 GEE-GEES

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's soccer team dropped a narrow 2-0 decision to the No. 3 nationally ranked Gee-Gees in OUA quarter-final action on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 28) in Ottawa.

The Blues finished 2018 with a 5-6-5 regular season record and a 1-1 standing in the post season. Toronto notched their first playoff victory since 2014, defeating the Carleton Ravens, 1-0, in OUA playoff action this past Wednesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Gee-Gees leading scorer Emma Lefebvre opened the scoring in the 37th minute and Ottawa took a 1-0 lead into half. Lefebvre struck again in the 64th minute to round out the win.

Third-year Blues goalkeeper Vanna Staggolis posted seven saves in the loss.
