The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team dropped a 5-3 decision to the McGill Redmen on Friday night (Oct. 26) at Varsity Arena.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Blues forward David Thomson made a nice move to gain space, but displayed a better shot to snag the early lead less than eight minutes into the game. The Redmen responded just over a minute later thanks to Christophe Lalonde. McGill kept the pressure on, as Lalonde and Aaron Armstrong scored two goals in the final 90 seconds as the visitor's took a 3-1 advantage into the first intermission.
Toronto cut into the lead just before the midway point of the second when Joey Manchurek went five hole on Redmen goaltender Louis-Philip Guindon. The Blues evened the score five minutes later on the powerplay as Manchurek sent a pass to Thomson streaking down the ice and he buried his own rebound to find the back of the net. The game was deadlocked at 3-3 after 40 minutes.
Samuel Tremblay regained the lead for McGill at 12:48 in the third period and they didn't look back. Tremblay added an empty-netter with 56 seconds remaining to round out the win.
Blues goalie Alex Bishop made 20 saves in the losing effort.
