The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's hockey team suffered a 2-1 shootout loss to the Laurentian Voyageurs on Sunday (Oct. 21) at Countryside Arena in Sudbury.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Laurentian's Julia Giannitsopoulos opened the scoring at 18:25 in the first period, putting the Voyageurs up 1-0.
In the dying seconds of the game, fifth-year defenceman Julia Szulewska sent a booming shot from the point through traffic to beatVoyageurs netminder Karen Collins and send the game into overtime.
The overtime period solved nothing though, and the game went to a shootout where Laurentian's Jex Gabrielle was the lone scorer.
Second-year Blues goalie Madeline Albert posted 17 saves in the loss.
UP NEXT: The Blues return home next Saturday, October 27 when they host the Western Mustangs at Varsity Arena. Puck drop is set for 3:00 p.m.
