The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's hockey team defeated the No. 9 Nipissing Lakers 3-0 on Saturday night (Oct. 20) at Memorial Gardens in North Bay.
HOW IT HAPPENED:Â Stephanie Ayres opened the scoring midway through the first period, tipping in a Cristine Chao point shot. The Blues were up 1-0 after 20 minutes of action. Toronto doubled up on their lead late in the second period as Mathilde De Serres tipped in a Taylor Trussler pass on the powerplay.
Chao added an insurance marker midway through the third period, wiring a point shot past Lakers goalie Cassie Roberge on the powerplay.
First-year Blues netminder Erica Fryer posted 13 saves in her first career shut out victory.
UP NEXT:Â The Blues travel to Sudbury, Ont., to take on the Laurentian Voyageurs tomorrow (Oct. 21). Puck drop is set for 2:00 p.m.
