The defending champion University of Toronto Varsity Blues baseball team notched a 9-1 victory over the Brock Badgers and a 3-2 win over the McMaster Marauders on Day 2 of the OUA championship (Oct. 20) in Ajax, Ont.
The Blues wrap up pool play with a perfect 3-0 record and advance to the semifinals tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m.
Toronto 9, Brock 1
The Blues blew the game open with four runs in the third inning and added another four in the top of the sixth. Sebastian Lech led Toronto with three hits and two RBI, while both Gabriel Nakonechny and Michael Deluca each had two hits.
Dean Christidis pitched a complete, one-run game, allowing just six hits and striking out three in the victory.
Toronto 3, McMaster 2
Graham Tebbit helped the Blues open the scoring with a pinch hit RBI single in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Marauders responded though and took a 2-1 lead in the sixth inning and Sebastian Lech singled to drive in Mateos Kekatos in the seventh.
Then, Nakonechny walked off for the second time in as many days to seal the Varsity Blues victory.
