Second-year defenceman Justin Brand had four assists as the University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team defeated the Nipissing Lakers 4-3 on Friday, October 19 in North Bay, Ont.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Fourth-year forward Ryan Kirkup opened the scoring just 39 seconds into the game and Max Lindsay gave the Blues a two-goal lead six minutes later.
Nathan Hudgin scored on the powerplay late in the first period, burying a Brand rebound and Toronto took a 3-0 lead into the first intermission.
The Lakers finally got on the board and cut the deficit to one with back-to-back goals one minute apart midway through the second frame. Blues captain Aidan Wallace responded though, as he converted on a Brand point shot and U of T led 4-2 after 40 minutes of action.
Nipissing brought the game back within one as Colin Campbell scored his second of the game 4:20 into the third period, but that was all they could muster.
Second-year netminder Frederic Foulem made 19 saves in his second straight victory.
UP NEXT: The Blues continue their road trip as they head to Sudbury to take on the Laurentian Voyageurs tomorrow night (Oct. 20). Puck drop is scheduled for 7:35 p.m.
