The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's basketball team overcame a 16-point deficit to defeat the StFX X-Men 101-84 in pre-season action on Friday night (Oct. 19) at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym.
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Blues got off to a slow start and were down 26-13 after the first quarter. U of T rallied to bring it within five (44-39) at halftime. A high-scoring third quarter saw the two teams deadlocked at 69-69 heading into the final frame. Toronto sealed the win by outscoring StFX 32-15 in the fourth quarter.
Veteran guard Christopher Barrett notched 17 points and a game-high five assists, while rookie Inaki Alvarez also had 17 points on the night. Sophomore standout Evan Shadkami had 16 points, with first-year guard Eli Mouyal tallying 15 points. Veteran forward Daniel Johansson also hit double digits with 12 points and a team-high eight boards in the win.
UP NEXT: The Blues wrap up their 2018-19 pre-season schedule tomorrow as they travel to Woodstock, Ont., to take on the Guelph Gryphons at St. Mary's High School.
