SOLID TEAM EFFORT LIFTS BLUES OVER LAKERS

Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's basketball team defeated the Nipissing Lakers 71-53 on Friday night (Jan. 12) in North Bay, Ont.
 
With the win, the Blues improve to 5-8 and remain in fifth place in the OUA East division, while the Lakers drop to 2-10 and sit sixth.
 
Fifth-year guard Rahshida Atkinson and third-year forward Sarah Bennett led the Blues with 11 points apiece. Atkinson added five rebounds, while Bennett had four boards and one assist on the night.
 
Sophomore forward Nada Radonjic added 10 points, while fifth-year guard Diedre Edwards had eight points, a game-high six rebounds, three assists and two steals. Rookies Christine Jurcau and Sara Knowles added seven and eight points, respectively, in the win.
 
Maria Corney led the Lakers with a game-high 13 points in the loss.
 
The Varsity Blues are back in action tomorrow night as they head to Sudbury, Ont., to take on the Laurentian Voyageurs. Tip off is set for 6 p.m.
