BLUES FALL TO BADGERS IN QUARTER-FINALS

Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's basketball team fell 80-59 to the No. 5 Brock Badgers in OUA quarter-final action on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 25) in St. Catharines, Ont.

Following an exciting opening quarter, which saw the Varsity Blues down just four (22-18), Toronto struggled to maintain a defensive presence and allowed the Badgers to finish the afternoon shooting over 50 percent from the field, with the majority of Brock's success coming from inside the paint.

Playing from behind, U of T was forced out of their game plan as they looked to the three-ball to bring them back, but could not find a late run to upset their nationally ranked opponents.

Badgers 2015-16 OUA all-star forward Danny Elgadi provided the most trouble for the Blues, finishing the night with 18 points, 15 rebounds and four blocks on the defensive end. Meanwhile, fellow forward Cassidy Ryan and guard Johneil Simpson also chipped in 18 points each off the bench, with Ryan shooting 8-for-10 from the floor and Simpson nailing three baskets from behind the arc.

Fourth-year guard Reilly Reid led the Blues in the tough loss, battling through a host of Badgers defenders for a team-high 15 points, while adding five rebounds and three assists.

In his last game as a Varsity Blue, fifth-year forward Devin Johnson, who Brock keyed on throughout the afternoon, collected 14 points and six rebounds.

Toronto ends their 2016-17 campaign with a 12-9 record in the OUA regular season and playoffs.
