Box Score Going stride-for-stride with the No. 4 Carleton Ravens, the University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's basketball team dropped a hard-fought 66-52 decision to their nationally ranked opponent on Saturday evening (Feb. 18) in Ottawa.
With the loss the Varsity Blues end their season with a 7-12 record.
In the Saturday night showdown, U of T second-year guard Keyira Parkes helped keep Toronto rolling as they challenged the top contender Ravens throughout the first three quarters keeping within striking distance throughout.
Parkes would end the night with a team-high 17 points, while adding four rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
However, in the fourth quarter, the Ravens would outscore the Blues 20-14 in the final frame to secure the victory. Carleton utilized effective outside shooting and strong paint defence with forward Elizabeth LeBlanc leading the way with 18 points, eight rebounds and four blocks, while guard Catherine Traer picked up a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds, adding four blocks on defence.
In only her second game back from injury, Toronto guard Diedre Edwards performed well in tandem with Parkes, delivering 10 points, five rebounds and two assists on the night.
The Varsity Blues will compete in an OUA playoff game as they travel to Laurier on Wednesday, February 22. Tip off is scheduled for 7 p.m. with all the action will be streamed live on OUA.tv.
