Box Score The No. 2 University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's volleyball team maintained their undefeated regular season record defeating the York Lions 3-1 Sunday afternoon (Feb. 12) at the Tait Mackenzie Centre. Set scores were 25-17, 25-18, 25-27, 25-15.
After clinching first place in the OUA East with their victory over Trent on Friday night, the exciting four set win over the Lions today now propels the Varsity Blues record to 15-0 this season.
Weathering an early second set run from York and a back-and-forth third, U of T were able to us a combination of strong blocks and power hitting from the outside to secure the convincing fourth set victory.
Reigning OUA East player of the year Alina Dormann delivered an incredible 26.5 point performance registering 22 kills, two service aces, and 2.5 blocks. This marks the third match this season Dormann has recorded over 25 points with over 20 kills as she continues to lead the OUA in both categories.
The Varsity Blues also received strong offensive efforts from first-year outside Emma Armstrong who contributed 12 kills and one service ace while adding nine digs, and second-year middle Anna Licht who picked up 11 kills, one ace, and three blocks.
Veteran setter Madelyn Mandryk guided the offence with an impressive 51 assists while libero Asli Ersozoglu led all players defensively with 25 digs.
The Lions were paced by Celeste Witzell who scored 22 kills and 3.5 blocks while adding 11 digs.
U of T next challenges the Windsor Lancers and OUA West leading Western Mustangs next weekend (Feb. 17, 18) on the road. First serve for both matches is scheduled for 6 p.m.Â
