UNDERDOG BLUES NEARLY STUN LIONS IN EXCITING FIVE SET MATCH

Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's volleyball team pushed the York Lions to the brink falling 3-2 in an exciting five set match Sunday afternoon (Feb. 12) at the Tait Mackenzie Centre. Set scores were 28-26, 25-23, 24-26, 21-25, 10-15.

With the loss the Blues fall to 6-8 on the season but remain in fifth place in the OUA East.

U of T started Sunday afternoon on fire riding a wave of momentum in capturing the first two sets of the rivalry contest. However, in the deciding points of the third Toronto was unable to capitalize allowing the Lions swing the game in extra points before maintaining an edge through the remainder of the five set thriller.

Fourth-year right side Will Colucci was in fine form securing a team-high 20 points on 18 kills and two blocks. Colucci was especially impressive in the Blues first two sets where his power from the outside was a noticeable advantage during U of T's emotional peak.

Fellow outside hitters Nicholas Trewern and Zach Albert added 13.5 points each with both recording 10 kills through the five sets.

First-year setter Jordan Figueira flew around the court to register 47 assists while Trewern led the defence with seven digs.

The Lions attack was lifted by middle Alex Duncan-Thibault who finished the afternoon with a game-high 23.5 points on 20 kills and 3.5 blocks.

U of T will now head West on the 401 to challenge the Windsor Lancers and Western Mustangs next weekend (Feb. 17, 18). Both matches are scheduled to start at 8 p.m.
