Box Score With his first basket of the night, fifth-year forward Devin Johnson became just the third player in Varsity Blues program history to surpass the 1200 career point mark, however, the Varsity Blues men's basketball team went on to drop an 87-73 decision to the No. 5 Ryerson Rams on Friday night (Feb. 10) at the Mattamy Athletic Centre.
With the loss, the Blues fall to 11-6 but remain in second place in the OUA East division.
Of note, Johnson now sits just 49 points behind second place on the Varsity Blues all-time scoring list with two games remaining in the regular season.
U of T utilized an impressive 7-0 run to cap off the first half, placing themselves within six points at the break down 43-37.
However, a late fourth-quarter push from the Rams put an end to Toronto's run as Ryerson lucked into several shots before fully finding their rhthym.
Johnson delivered a game-high 21 points in the loss, finding success in the paint where he also picked up seven rebounds, two steals, and one block.
Guards Reilly Reid and Sage Usher also delivered strong performances as Reid's slashing style led to 17 points and a game-high nine rebounds, while Usher's jump shooting saw the third-year playmaker deliver 16 points going 7-for-15 from the field.
Ryerson was led by a pair of 20 point-scorers in Ammanuel Diressa and Adike Peter McNeilly. Diressa also added nine rebounds, four assists, three steals and one block on the night.
The road to the Blues regular season finale does not get any easier as they now travel to the nation's capital to challenge top U Sports contenders Ottawa (Feb. 17) and Carleton (Feb. 18) in their final two games. Tip off for both matchups is scheduled for 8 p.m. with the action also being streamed live on OUA.tv.
