STRONG SECOND QUARTER LEADS BLUES OVER STANGS

Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's basketball team defeated the Western Mustangs 66-53 on Friday, November 3 in London, Ont.
 
Fourth-year guard Sage Usher led all players with 14 points, while adding seven rebounds, one steal and one block on the night.
 
Third-year forward Daniel Johansson added 11 points and seven rebounds, while fifth-year veteran Reilly Reid had 10 points, a game-high nine rebounds, three assists and one steal in the victory.
 
As a team, Toronto shot 41% from the floor, compared to Western's 29.7% and out-rebounded the Mustangs 52-32.
 
The Blues opened the game on an 11-2 run, but Western responded with an 8-2 streak of their own to bring the game back within reach. The Blues were up 18-12 at the end of the first quarter.
 
Toronto used a dominant second quarter to take the lead for good. U of T outscored Western 27-12 in the frame, led by an eight-point effort from Usher, to lead 45-24 at halftime.
 
The Mustangs didn't go down without a fight, outscoring the Blues 14-10 in the third and 15-11 in the fourth, but it wasn't enough to overcome the first-half deficit.
 
The Varsity Blues return to action tomorrow as they head to Windsor, Ont., to take on the Lancers. Tip off is set for 4 p.m.
