FOURTH-QUARTER COMEBACK FALLS SHORT

Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's basketball team fell 70-63 to the Guelph Gryphons on Saturday, November 18 in Guelph, Ont.
 
With the loss, the Blues drop to 3-3 and sit tied for fifth place in the OUA East division, while the Gryphons improve to 2-5 and are tied for fourth in the West.
 
Fifth-year guard Reilly Reid led all players with 16 points, going 6-for-12 from the floor and 3-for-4 from the free throw line. Reid added four rebounds, one assist and one steal on the day.
 
Fellow veteran guard Sage Usher added 14 points, two rebounds, two assists and one steal, while third-year forward Daniel Johannson had 10 points and three rebounds in the loss.
 
Trailing by six (50-44) heading into the fourth quarter, Usher drained back-to-back threes in the opening minutes of the frame to bring the game within two (50-52). Reid drained a couple of baskets to keep the game within two (56-58) with less than three minutes remaining, but the Gryphons stood tall and sealed the win with some clutch free throws.
 
Drew Walford led the Gryphons with 13 points and nine rebounds, while Daniel Dooley also had 13 points in the win.
 
The Varsity Blues return to action next Friday, November 24 as they host the Laurier Golden Hawks at Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport. Tip off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
