Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's volleyball team fell in straight sets to the No. 5 Ryerson Rams on Friday night (Nov. 17) at Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport.
The Blue and White fought hard against the nationally ranked opponent. Despite a slow start in the first set, the Varsity Blues would close the gap late, falling 25-20 to open the evening.
The theme of a late run for U of T continued into the second and third sets. Toronto would challenge the Rams with strong late runs in both sets, but came up just short 25-22 and 25-23.
Offensively, the Varsity Blues were led by 14 points from second-year standout Alex Barnes, and 10 points from fellow outside hitter Ken Dobson. Barnes earned his team-high from 11 kills and three solo blocks, while Dobson collected eight kills, one service ace, and one solo block.
U of T setter and 2016-17 OUA rookie of the year Jordan Figueira guided the offence with 34 assists.
Leading the way for the Rams was fifth-year veteran Brendan Kewin who registered a game-high 15 points off of 13 kills, one service ace, and on solo block.
Ryerson setter Adam Anagnostopoulos recorded a game-high 40 assists.
The Varsity Blues return to action this Sunday, November 19 when they challenge the Trent Excalibur on the road. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
