U OF T FALLS AT HOME TO VOYAGEURS

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's lacrosse team were at home Saturday, October 14 as they took on the Laurentian Voyageurs.  Toronto had beaten Laurentian in there season opener in Sudbury, Ont., and the rematch game would have ramifications in the standings as a Laurentian win would tie them with the Blues for fourth place in the CUFLA West Division. That is exactly what happened as the Voyageurs won 22-11.

The first quarter was fairly even with the score 4-3 in favour of Toronto. Jaxin da Roza had two goals and  AJ Masson and Darren Elliott had singles for the Blues.

The Voyageurs scored the first four goals of the second quarter before the Blues got back on the scoreboard with two goals from Elliott. Laurentian scored three more times in the quarter to only one more goal by Jason Barnable of Toronto. Score at the half was 10-7 Laurentian.

Toronto couldn't seem to shake off the negative effects of the last goal before half and Laurentian scored within the first minute to open the third quarter. It didn't help matters that Toronto took a three minute penalty shortly afterwards during which the Voyageurs scored two man-up goals. They added two more goals in the period versus markers by Elliott and Barnable.

The Blues missing two defensive stalwarts, Captain Zach Holmes and James Keane, who both did not dress because of injuries were in tough for much of the match down the stretch. As a result, Laurentian won going away in the fourth quarter, scoring seven more times. Barnable and Elliott each scored their fourth goals of the game in the fourth.

Toronto has to regroup quickly as they play at home again on Sunday, October 15 at 7:30 p.m. against the Laurier Golden Hawks.
