Box Score The No. 2 nationally ranked University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's volleyball team handily defeated the Queen's Gaels 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-12) in their 10th annual Think Pink match on Saturday night (Jan. 28) at the Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport.

The win extends Toronto's win streak to 11 games as they remain atop the OUA East standings.

The team dedicated their Think Pink match to the late Mary Drakich, mother of Varsity Blues head coach Kristine Drakich, in a special pre-game ceremony.

During the first set break, Varsity Blues women's rugby player Victoria Harvey and promotions student leader Giovanna Lisena cut their hair in support of the cause. Lisena, who raised over $2500, also honoured her grandmother as a breast cancer survivor. The second set break featured a volleyball match between the women's rugby and women's lacrosse teams in support of the cause.

Second-year right side hitter Alina Dormann led all players with 11 points on 10 kills and one block, while adding nine digs on the night. Rookie left Emma Armstrong had 10 points on five kills, four aces and one block, also adding nine digs, while first-year middle Natasha Lewis had seven points, all on kills.

Fifth-year setter Madelyn Mandryk tallied 27 assists and six digs, with veteran libero Asli Ersozoglu adding a game-high 16 digs in the victory.

The first set started as a back-and-forth battle with neither team holding more than a two-point advantage in the early goings. Licht began to rally the Blues as they look a 16-12 advantage into the first set break. The Blues held the gap and took the first set 25-17.

The second set was another close one to start as Toronto took a narrow 16-14 lead at the break. The Blues took over from there, going on a 9-3 run to take a 2-0 match lead, 25-17.

It was all U of T in the third set as they got out to a 10-2 advantage and were up 16-5 at the technical timeout en route to the 25-12 victory.

The Varsity Blues return to action next Saturday, February 4 as they host the No. 10 McMaster Marauders at Goldring Centre. Opening serve is set for 2 p.m.
