Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's basketball team dropped a 79-68 decision to the York Lions on the road Friday afternoon (Jan. 13).
Despite the loss the Blues remain in second place in the OUA East with a 7-4 record.
Toronto ran into a red hot Lions team in the first half of the tough Friday outing. York shot 50 per cent from the floor in the opening two quarters including 10 three-pointers, while the Blues struggled to find a rhythm shooting just 29 per cent to put them down 48-27 at the half.
U of T would storm back in the third and early fourth thanks to strong play from forwards Daniel Johansson and Manny Sahota. Johansson picked up six of his team-high 16 in a momentum shifting third quarter while Sahota scored 11 of his 13 in the second half to bring the Blues within six midway through the final frame.
However, crucial turnovers down the stretch ended the Toronto comeback.
Lions forward Brandon Ramirez led all scorers with 19 points while guard Julio Vazquez impressed off the bench going four-for-eight from behind the three-point arc.
The Varsity Blues will look to rebound tomorrow night (Jan. 14)Â against the Queen's Gaels who are battling with U of T for positioning in the OUA East. Tip off is scheduled for 8 p.m. in Kingston, Ontario with the game being streamed live on OUA.tv.
