The University of Toronto Varsity Blues dropped a 32-5 decision to the No. 8 nationally ranked McMaster Marauders in Week 2 of OUA football action on Monday, September 5 at Tim Horton's Field.

With the loss, the Blues drop to 28-21-1 all-time versus the Marauders, dating back to their first meeting in 1945. The game was the first of two on WeatherTech Football Day in Hamilton, with the Canadian Football League's Hamilton Tiger-Cats hosting the Labour Day Classic vs. the Argos in the evening match at Tim Hortons Field.

Fifth-year Blues quarterback Marcus Hobbs was 22-of-38 for 288 yards. His favourite target was fellow veteran Rahul Madan, who ended the game with 12 receptions for 154 yards.

Second-year defensive back Richard Gillespie led the Blues with seven solo tackles, one break up and added a beautiful interception in the fourth quarter. Third-year DB Dennis Idowu also notched seven tackles and one break up in the loss.

The Blues first-half struggles continued, committing three turnovers through the first 30 minutes. McMaster scored one touchdown, kicked four field goals and conceded a safety to build a 19-2 lead at halftime.

The Marauders padded their lead early in the third quarter, blocking a Ryan Grandell field goal attempt and running the ball 70 yards down the field for the major. Toronto began to rally and strung together some great drives and Grandell converted a 32-yard field goal. The Blues trailed 26-5 heading into the fourth quarter.

McMaster rounded out the scoring with two more field goals in the fourth quarter.

The Varsity Blues return to action this Saturday, September 10 when they host the Carleton Ravens in their 2016 home opener at Varsity Stadium. Kick off is set for 1 p.m. Advanced tickets are on sale here.
