The University of Toronto Varsity Blues baseball team overcame a 3-1 deficit to defeat the Waterloo Warriors 6-3 in Game 1 of their doubleheader on Saturday, September 24 at Dan Lang Field. U of T then followed that up with a tough 4-3 loss in Game 2.

Leading 1-0 through six innings, the Warriors scored three to hold a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the seventh. The Blues were able to tie the game and then sophomore Gabriel Nakonechny came up big with a base-clearing triple in the eighth inning to give the Blues the 6-3 advantage.

Josh Graham got the start on the mound with Adam Odd in as a reliever.

In Game 2, Toronto carried a similar 3-1 lead into the fifth inning only to have the Warriors storm back. Kyle Bowers and Gabriel Nakonechny led the way at the plate for the Blues picking up two hits along with three stolen bases for Nakonechny. Adam Odd and Grant Shantz cashed in U of T's RBI's.

David Pham pitched five innings allowing three earned runs on seven hits while picking up one strikeout. Odd appeared in relief striking out two.

The Varsity Blues now hit the road to take on the Laurier Golden Hawks before returning home to Dan Laing Field on Saturday, October 1 to welcome the Western Mustangs. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
