Box Score With a final kill from second-year outside hitter Anna Feore the No. 3 University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's volleyball team pushed their undefeated streak to 17 games taking down the No. 7 McMaster Marauders Saturday afternoon (Feb. 13) in straight sets (25-15, 25-21, 25-22).
After opening up a two set lead which saw Toronto setter Madelyn Mandryk utiilize every aspect of the Blues offence, the Marauders began to challenge U of T in the third with strong play from middle Maicee Sorensen as she helped push McMaster to a 16-14 technical timeout lead.
However, U of T head coach Kristine Drakich would rally the troops after the break and the tremendous power of outside hitters Alina Dormann, Caleigh Cruickshank, and Feore lifted Toronto to the three set victory.
Dormann and Cruickshank tied with a game-high 13 points apiece with Dormann collecting 12 kills and one service ace to Cruickshank's eight kills, three service aces and two blocks. Feore followed them up with seven kills and one service ace.
Toronto also saw excellent defensive play with three Blues reaching double-digit digs in Dormann, Feore, and libero Denise Wooding. Setter Mandryk finished the game with 34 assists.
For the Marauders, Sorensen led the way with 13 points on 11 kills, two assisted blocks, and one service ace. Setter Michelle Chelladurai collected 22 assists.Â
The Varsity Blues will now return home to the Goldring Centre with just two regular season games remaining and an undefeated season within their grasp. First, Toronto will welcome the Western Mustangs on Friday, Feburary 19 with first serve scheduled for 8 p.m. Then they will be taking on the Windsor Lancers Saturday, February 20 with the start time set for 6 p.m.
