The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's and women's volleyball teams host the York Lions in their third annual Ontario Volleyball Association (OVA) Day this Sunday, November 13 at Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport.

The women start the action at 2 p.m., with the men to follow at 4 p.m. The Blues will be honouring U of T alumnae and 2016 beach volleyball Olympians Heather Bansley and Kristina Valjas between games.

OVA athletes who wear their team jersey receive two free passes to the matches and will have the opportunity to meet Bansley and Valjas following the ceremony. To register an OVA athlete, click

The CIS defending champion Varsity Blues women are off to a good start, sitting atop the OUA East division with a 3-0 record.

Second-year right side hitter and reigning OUA East player of the year Alina Dormann leads the province in kills (5.20) and points (5.90) per set. Third-year middle Veronica Derylo tops the OUA, averaging 1.44 blocks per set, while fifth-year veteran and two-time OUA all-star Madelyn Mandryk ranks second among setters, averaging 9.56 assists per set.

The Lions are 2-1 after 3-0 victories over Lakehead and Nipissing and a 3-0 loss to the McMaster Marauders.

Toronto's men are 1-2 to start the season and in fifth place in the OUA East division. The Blues split their matches in Kingston last weekend, topping the RMC Paladins, 3-2, before dropping a narrow 3-1 decision to the Queen's Gaels.

Fourth-year right side hitter Will Colucci leads the team and tops the OUA, averaging 5.3 points per set. He also ranks second in kills per set (4.58).

Third-year standout Alex Ferris leads all liberos with 2.83 digs per set, while rookie setter Jordan Figueira currently sits fifth in the province with 9.00 assists per set.

York will be after their first win after dropping their season-opening matches, 3-0, to both Nipissing and McMaster last weekend.

Prior to Sunday's match-ups, the Blues will also play host to the Nipissing Lakers on Saturday at 2 and 4 p.m.
