BLUES OUTLAST WARRIORS IN OT WIN

Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's basketball team used overtime to outpace the Waterloo Warriors 95-90 in their OUA season opener Saturday afternoon (Nov. 5) in Waterloo, Ontario.

Throughout regulation the Varsity Blues defence was strong causing 19 turnovers and outscoring the Warriors 21-12 in points off turnovers.

However, in the fourth quarter Waterloo guard Ben Davis brought his team back, scoring 27 points on the night including a clutch layup in the dying seconds to force overtime.

In overtime though the Blues proved to be too much as Davis fouled out early and U of T guard Christopher Barrett nailed two impressive three-pointers creating the separation needed to secure the hard-fought season opening victory.

Fifth-year forward and two-time OUA all-star Devin Johnson proved once again why he is an OUA scoring threat leading all scorers with 28 points while adding seven rebounds.

Barrett ended the night with 17 points including going 3-for-4 from behind the arc.

Forward Manny Sahota finished the night with a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds.

The Varsity Blues will now return home to the Goldring Centre where they will host the Ryerson Rams next Friday, November 11 for their home opener. The rivalry matchup will serve as a Fan Zone Friday event at the high performance centre with the game also being streamed live on OUA.tv. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m.
