VOLLEYBALL TO TAKE ON TRENT SUNDAY

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's and women's volleyball teams hosts the Trent Excalibur this Sunday, November 27 at Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport.
 
The women start the action at 1 p.m., with the men to follow at 3 p.m. Prior to Sunday's matches, the Blues travel across town to take on the Ryerson Rams on Friday night at Mattamy Athletic Centre.
 
The national defending champion Varsity Blues women's team are a perfect 5-0 to start the season and have dropped just one set so far in 2016. The Blues, who improved to a No. 2 national ranking this week, are led offensively by second-year right side hitter Alina Dormann. The Ottawa native leads the OUA in kills (4.88) and points (5.7) per set.
 
Fifth-year setter Madelyn Mandryk ranks second in the province, averaging 9.64 assists per set, while third-year libero Asli Ersozoglu also sits second with 4.25 digs per set.
 
The Ryerson Rams are 5-2 and tied for first with the Blues in the OUA East with two games in hand. Ryerson is riding a five-game win streak since dropping their season-opening matches to Toronto and Western. Theanna Vernon leads the Rams, averaging 2.50 kills and 3.7 points per set.
 
The Trent Excalibur are 2-4 and tied for fifth in the East.  Camile Garzon tops the Excalibur with 2.36 kills and 2.9 points per set.
 
The Varsity Blues men are 2-3 and tied for fifth in the OUA East division. Fourth-year right side hitter Will Colucci leads the OUA averaging 4.70 kills and 5.40 points per set.
 
Rookie setter Jordan Figueira has certainly been a player to watch. The Oakville, Ont., native ranks thirds in the province in both assists (9.45) and digs (2.15) per set.
 
The Ryerson Rams are 4-3 and in second place in the East, with two games in hand over the Blues. They are led by Lukas Coleman, who posts 4.24 kills and 5.0 points per set.
 
The Trent Excalibur will be looking for their first win of the season on Sunday. The team, who is in its first year in the OUA, has been led by left side hitter Jacob Bothen's 2.1 points per set so far in 2016-17.
