Before the close of the 2016 season, the Varsity Blues football program is excited to release the names of seven talented student-athletes who will compete for a spot on the 2017 opening day roster.
"These talented players, including three offensive linemen, really meet areas of need in our program," said Greg Gary, Varsity Blues head coach. "They are quality athletes, quality students and add great depth to our roster. I'm confident they all will come in and be able to compete right away."

Cisco Bower-D'Cunha (OL, 6-8, 330lbs)
Cisco Bower-D'Cunha (Lyndhurst, Ont.) was named the 2014 offensive MVP of the LaSalle Secondary School Black Knights. He was a member of the East division roster in the 2015 Ontario football prospect game and this past summer played offensive tackle for the OVFL finalist Kingston Grenadiers.

Michael Bucci (FB/LB, 5-10, 200lbs)
Michael Bucci is a two-sport athlete from The Gunnery School in Washington, Connecticut, where he played both football and hockey. The Montreal native was named the male athlete of the year at St. Thomas High School in his senior year and played on its championship rugby and football teams. Â

Naol Denko (DB, 5-11, 180lbs)
Naol Denko is a 2016 GTA current star and a captain of the Notre Dame C.S.S. Knights. The Brampton, Ont., native played for the 2015 undefeated Guelph Junior Gryphons of the Ontario Football Conference (OFC). While playing for the Junior Gryphons, Denko recorded 31 solo tackles and three interceptions.

Cameron Fryer (DL, 6-0, 270lbs)
Cameron Fryer (Ajax, Ont.) is a second-year transfer from the Western Mustangs. Prior to Western, Fryer played both offensive and defensive line at Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts. He is a graduate of the St. Michael's College School Kerry Blues program and has also played for the Ajax-Pickering Dolphins (OVFL) and London Beefeaters (Canadian Junior Football League) organizations.

Spencer Goodfellow (OL, 6-0, 280lbs)Â
Spencer Goodfellow has been an offensive lineman with the Kingston Grenadiers of the OVFL for four seasons and was named the offensive line MVP in both 2013 and 2015. Goodfellow competed in the 2015 Ontario prospects game.

Spencer Lambier (OL, 6-4, 275lbs)
A captain of the Wilfred Laurier High School football team, Spencer Lambier (Scarborough, Ont.) has been a stalwart on the OVFL's Toronto Thunder offensive line. Spencer played in the Ontario prospects game in 2015 and was named rookie of the year on the senior varsity Toronto Thunder team this past season.

David Maecker (QB, 6-4, 210lbs)
A member of the Oshawa Hawkeyes, David Maecker was named a 2015 OVFL all-star, completing 112 of 197 passes for 1790 yards and 19 touchdowns. He played in the 2016 OVFL all-star prospects game and this past summer was a quarterback on the Team Ontario roster.Â

Students who sign a letter of intent and commit to Varsity Blues intercollegiate teams will be eligible to play at the University of Toronto provided they are academically admissible and have applied through the normal process with the Ontario Universities Application Centre.
