The Blues finished the 2015-16 season with a 5-14 record, in third place in the OUA East division and fell to the Queen's Gaels in the first round of the playoffs. Toronto returns a veteran group of starters and has added some great talent to its roster this season.

"The players returning from last year's team have something to prove," said Varsity Blues head coach John Campbell. "They've been working hard all summer and I think based on our results early this preseason, we are poised to show some improvement."

Back to lead the offensive charge is two-time OUA all-star Devin Johnson. In 2015-16, the fifth-year forward from Ajax, Ont., ranked second in the OUA, averaging 22.4 points per game and was seventh in the conference with 7.5 rebounds per game.

Sage Usher returns for his third season as the Blues starting point guard. The Toronto native ranked fifth in the province with 84 assists in 19 games last year.

The Blues add NCAA transfer Reilly Reid to their roster this season. Reid, a 6-foot-3 guard from Mississauga, Ont., played three seasons at Assumption College and has shone for U of T so far in the preseason.

"We're really looking to become a more consistent defensive team this year," added Campbell. "That's been something that has really developed for us over the summer. I think playing against NCAA Division 1 programs challenges you to perform at a higher level and our guys have responded well."
