The University of Toronto Varsity Blues fastpitch team dropped a doubleheader this past weekend against the defending OIWFA champion Western Mustangs in London, Ontario.
In Game 1 third-year standout Taisley Isaac drew the start in the pitching circle. Isaac threw well giving up zero earned runs but the Blues defence struggled allowing Western seven unearned runs for a 7-0 opening victory.
Toronto looked to bounce back in Game 2 with Annie Vlahiotis pitching. Vlahiotis went four innings, holding Western to three runs but once again the U of T bats were quiet. Leadoff hitter Alika Kingsbury had some success at the plate going 2-for-2 with a stolen base but the Mustangs picked up a duplicate 7-0 win.
After a rain soaked week four in the OIWFA, the Varsity Blues now sit at 13-7 placing them in third place behind the McMaster Marauders (15-3) and Western Mustangs (23-0). Toronto will look to keep its current podium standing this week as they travel to Guelph to take on the Gryphons this Thursday (Oct. 6). The doubleheader begins at 7 p.m.
