Friday night (Sept. 30) the University of Toronto Varsity Blues fastpitch team travelled to Victoria Park in Hamilton, Ontario to battle the McMaster Marauders in a hard-fought doubleheader.
Game one saw third-year Taisley Isaac take the ball in the circle pitching a complete game.
The Blues carried an early 1-0 lead courtesy an Annie Vlahiotis RBI single in the second inning, cashing in Karen Nishi.
However, McMaster gave Toronto trouble earning one run off of Isaac while adding two more unearned to take the opener 3-1.
After the close first contest, the rain started to fall making things a little tougher for third-year pitcher Alicia Callaghan but the geography major pitched all seven innings giving up just six hits.
The offence was carried by centre-fielder Nicole Knudsen who reached base four times, totalling two doubles, a triple, and a walk, driving in five runs including leadoff hitter Alika Kingsbury three times. Callaghan also contributed at the plate scoring two runs on route to a 9-6 victory, lifting Callaghan's record to 5-1 on the season.
Saturday afternoon (Oct. 1) the Varsity Blues head to Windsor where they will face the 3-10 Windsor Lancers. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
