Box Score The No. 4 University of Toronto Varsity Blues defeated their cross-town rivals, the Ryerson Rams, in straight sets (25-17, 25-19, 25-18) Sunday afternoon (Jan. 24) to extend their current win streak to 12 in a row, remaining perfect on the season thus far.
Behind the power of their outside hitters Caleigh Cruickshank, Alina Dormann and Anna Feore the Varsity Blues proved to be too much for the Rams. Cruickshank led all Blues recording 13 points on 10 kills and three blocked shots. Right behind her was Dormann who registered nine kills and Feore who finished with seven.
With the strong offensive performance setter Madelyn Mandryk, who continues to lead the OUA in several assist categories, had endless choices throughout the match finishing the contest with 22 assists.
For the Rams, it was middle Theanna Vernon who led the way recording a game-high 14 points with 10 kills and four blocked shots. Setter Emily Betteridge collected 26 assists in the quick three-set match
The Varsity Blues will next welcome the Queen's Gaels to the Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport on Friday, January 29 in a matchup which will serve as the second in a trio of games for the Varsity Blues ninth annual Think Pink, #BLEEDBLUE campaign.
