BLUES SPLIT DOUBLEHEADER IN KINGSTON

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues went 1-1 with the Queen's Gaels on Saturday, September 26 in Kingston, Ont.

Toronto defeated the Gaels 6-3 in Game 1, followed by a 6-2 loss in Game 2.

A strong pitching performance allowed the Varsity Blues to pull away in game one of the day as third-year pitcher Colin Edwards (Toronto) delivered seven solid innings allowing just two earned runs against 34 batters faced. Drew Valade (Hamilton, Ont.) would come in for relief work and struck out three of the seven batters he faced in two shutout innings of work.

Offensively, first-year speedster Anthony Spignesi went perfect at the plate going 3-for-3 with one RBI, three runs, and three stolen bases. His strong effort was supplemented with RBIs from outfielder's Andrew Mannone (Toronto) and Bradley Bedford (Burlington, Ont.).

Game two details to follow.

The Blues return to action tomorrow as they travel to Hamilton, Ont., to take on the McMaster Marauders.
